During the week of March 2nd-March 6th a student survey will be administered at Oakwood CUSD #76 called the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey. For several years, the Illinois State Board of Education has implemented this survey across the state for students in grades 4 through 12. The 5 Essentials System is based on more than 30 years of research conducted by the University of Chicago Consortium on School Research. The 5 Essentials are:

  • Effective Leaders: The principal works with teachers to implement a clear and strategic vision for school success.

  • Collaborative Teachers: Teachers collaborate to promote professional growth.

  • Involved Families: The entire school staff builds strong relationships with families and communities to support learning.

  • Supportive Environment: The school is safe and orderly. Teachers have high expectations for students and support students to realize their goals. Classmates also support one another.

  • Ambitious Instruction: Classes are academically demanding and engage students by emphasizing the application of knowledge. It asks students about their experiences in school, giving school leaders critical student voice and input to help develop school improvement plans.

Teachers or administrators will not see individual student responses to survey questions and will only receive aggregated information.

The survey link and more detailed information is located on our website at https://www.oakwood76.org/o/district/page/5-essentials-survey

If you do not want your child to participate we ask that you please let your building principal know by February 20th, 2026.
